Martha Stewart Visits St. Louis

Martha Stewart Visits St. Louis

Martha Stewart came to town Friday for a rescheduled guest lecture and booksigning at the Saint Louis Art Museum. She was originally supposed to be in St. Louis back in March as part of the Art in Bloom series, but her flight was cancelled due to a weather situation. Stewart was visiting to promote her book, "Martha's Flowers:" A Practical Guide to Growing, Gathering, and Enjoying."

Stewart's co-author, Kevin Sharkey, joined her onstage. At one point, Stewart was discussing Skylands, her estate in Maine. She mentioned that Jens Jensen was the landscape designer, who was also actually the creator of Carrswold Drive in Clayton. In fact, Carrswold Drive was created just like the long driveway at Skylands - designed so that you don’t see very much of it at once. The Skylands driveway is a mile long, and then the house just sort of appears, a Jensen trademark to compliment the lines of nature.

After signing books, Stewart toured the Sunken Cities exhibit at the museum and also viewed a few of the permanent collection galleries.
