First Show at Cherokee Street Gallery

First Show at Cherokee Street Gallery

“Cherokee Street is the perfect place to display such powerful art because of the genuine, authentic culture the street possesses. I am excited to be opening our doors,”said Benjamin Lowder, Cherokee Street Gallery founder and artist.

Fascinated passer bys and art enthusiasts streamed into the doors of the Cherokee Street Gallery for its it’s first official art opening with a show titled “Messages From Mercury”.

The show features Lowder’s artwork created by objects such as deconstructed caution barricades. The artwork expresses the idea that humans are in danger of losing touch with their guiding archetypal forces and this disconnection could cause the human race to “go the wrong way.” Lowder says, “This 'Message From Mercury' is essentially a call for us to acknowledge our hubris.”

Lowder’s work is also complimented with pieces from two other popular St. Louis artists, Jerald Leans and Zack Smithey. Both artists utilize fluid biomorphic shapes that play with the viewer's perception of these shapes in relation to themselves and the background in which they’ve been placed.

“This is really just the beginning,” said Lowder. “I am hoping to build up an audience for the upcoming art we are excited to be revealing in the fall.”

"Messages From Mercury" will be on view at Cherokee Street Gallery through August.
