Pony Bird

Pony Bird

Who we are: Pony Bird provides a family environment with 24-hour quality care for up to 60 non-ambulatory persons of all ages with significant intellectual and physical disabilities and medical fragility. These individuals are unable to meet their daily living needs without total assistance. Pony Bird has six residential homes that are located in Jefferson County, Missouri and serves the St. Louis Metro Area.

What we do: For nearly 40 years, Pony Bird has been a leader in providing a homelike setting for non-ambulatory children and adults with significant intellectual and physical disabilities. Twenty-four hour personal care the trained staff provides includes speech/physical/occupational therapy, dietary management, health care management and transportation for essential medical care. Overnight and day respite care is also available to families in the community who have a family member with these needs. Pony Bird’s family of special ones also enjoy ongoing educational learning, activities, community outings and therapy services to create their highest possible quality of life.

Why we’re important: Pony Bird is truly a “home” filled with love, laughter and compassion. Pony Bird is the only private non-for-profit organization in the Metropolitan Area specializing in supports for medically fragile individuals of all ages and has been recognized by the State of Missouri Department of Mental Health for our outstanding level of care. Every individual is treated with dignity, love and respect. Pony Bird provides a warm empowering support system where abilities are celebrated. Individuals are given a chance to explore their own unique skillsets, while actively engaging in the community. The individuals that live at Pony Bird are the most vulnerable citizens. For many, Pony Bird is the only place that can provide the intense level of care that is required and sometimes the last option families have available.

How we impact the community: Individuals who call Pony Bird home are active members of their community. Volunteering to give back allows them to maximize their abilities. As active participants in activities such as Special Olympics, working in food pantries and assisting with Meals on Wheels or donating artwork to other charities gives the individuals an outlet to feel connected and fulfilled. These community integration activities give the residents the chance to become full participants in the community in which we live.

How you can help: All gifts are crucial to our success and daily operation to support our vision to be among the best developmental disability residential home in the nation. Your time, talents and financial gifts really do make a difference! Contributions allow us to continue to provide the quality of life that the individuals need and deserve. Nearly 100 percent of the individuals who live at Pony Bird fall below the poverty level. With your continued support Pony Bird will provide the care these individuals need to thrive.

Monetary donations: Annual, monthly or one-time contributions can be made online, by phone or mail. Honor a loved one through a tribute or memorial gift. Corporate and social groups may host a fundraiser for Pony Bird. Give a gift of stock and receive further tax advantages. Make a legacy gift and join the Pegasus Society. Include Pony Bird in your planned giving, and donate to the Pony Bird Pegasus Endowment or designate Pony Bird for memorial contributions. We also accept in-kind donations of gift cards, tickets to concerts, movies or events, auction items for fundraising events, and office supplies.

Volunteer: Pony Bird relies on community support from friends like you! Individuals, companies, schools, etc., can help support Pony Bird through contributing your gifts. These gifts may include visiting, singing, helping with crafts or other talents you have to share. Please join one or both groups:
